If the World Ended…

If the world ended
I’d see your face as well as others
If the world ended
It wouldn’t just be the mothers crying
If the world ended
Everyone’s demons evolve demands
If the world ended
The air would be thick
as thick as blood
on the ground
evaporated into our lungs
If the world ended
We’d have no place to run
no place to hide
no place for love
no place for emotion
If the world ended
I’d write a song to bring back the sun
to bring back the dead
to bring back life
to bring back fear
If the world ended
I’d be the same as you and you as me
If the world ended
I’d see tunnels close up and mountains kneel
I’d see lions remove their crowns and fish remove their hooks
I’d see weapons take themselves apart and flowers step on acquaintances
I’d see the world go flat and the sun begin to revolve around the earth
I’d see newspapers tell the truth and televisions read books
I’d see solar-powered flashlights
I’d see cigarette butts form colonies and start pilgrimages to trashcans
I’d see factories sink and buildings endlessly reach the black sky
I’d see apes and dolphins and crows and hamsters and pigs fly off in a spaceship but stop far enough to watch us destroy ourselves and observe and write a thesis
If the world ended
There’d be the best that brings them back
If the world ended
Our world would open
If the world ended
The world would end.

My Hair

Sleeping in a buttoned up t-shirt
I feel you unbutton it for me
tuck me in, and brush away the hurt
brush the hair so I can see
two times in my life
have I seen this candle light
though the curtains blow with strife
has the air in this room always been this light?
Has my pillow ever been so empty?
Has the wind ever been so cold to me?
Has this shirt ever felt so tight to me?
Or has the hair always been there in front of me?
